Floral Flux Façade

Project type

Dynamic Architecture

Date

October 2024

Location

Miami Beach

Role

Student Concept

This façade design explores the intersection of nature-inspired aesthetics and sustainable performance. Drawing from the form and behavior of flowers, the façade features petal-like elements that open and close in response to environmental conditions. During sunny and calm weather, the petals open to expose integrated solar panels, maximizing energy collection and allowing light to filter through the structure. When wind or rain is detected, the petals automatically close, protecting both the panels and the building envelope while transforming the façade into a sculptural shield.

The system is designed to operate dynamically, combining kinetic design principles with solar technology and parametric control. The floral geometry serves not only as a visual language but as a functional mechanism, blending beauty and performance. The result is a façade that responds to its environment in real-time, offering a poetic yet practical approach to climate adaptation and renewable energy in architectural design.
